We consider Physical Activity one of the most important pillars for health along with Nutrition and Rest. The WHO (World Health Organization) defines it ‘as any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that requires energy expenditure’ and it ecompasses exercise but also other activities like playing, working, active transportation, housework and leisure activities.
Our bodies are designed for movement, so we have to get them in good shape through regular activity adapted to our age and physical condition
In the first stages of our lives, physical activity is more intense and frequent: We play, run, do sports, etc. As time goes by, many people reduce their activity levels because of work, family or simply because the demands of day to day life and so we get sedentary.
Among the benefits we get from mild exercise is the relationships with other people. Getting out together makes our empathy and self-esteem grow and combats depression.
